Turf

General Rules / Guidelines:

  1. SHOES / CLOTHING:
    1. No cleats (neither rubber nor metal cleats) may be worn. Recommend that players wear tennis or court shoes.  Shoes with waffle/small studded bottoms are okay.
    2. The turf can give severe rug burns. Recommend that players wear sliding shorts and knee pads, or otherwise cover knees, shins, forearms, and elbows.
  2. FOOD / BEVERAGES / TOBACCO:
    1. No seeds or food on turf.
    2. No gum in the facility.
    3. Only water allowed on the turf. Other drinks are allowed in facility but must remain off turf.
    4. No tobacco products of any kind in facility.
  3. EQUIPMENT:
    1. Regular outdoor baseballs and softballs may be used.
    2. All nets and screens in turf area must stay in turf areas, please do not remove. 
    3. Use hitting mats.  There are hitting mats that are painted with home plate and batter’s boxes. These mats are to be used to avoid excessive turf wear in the batting cages.  These mats must be used as they are intended. Do not roll them, fold them or place objects on top.
    4. Use pitching mats.  Pitching mats are located near the storage area rolled.  If you do use a pitching mat, it is your responsibility to put back. 
    5. Place a small square of extra turf under buckets when siting on to catch.   Small squares are located around the turf in various spots.
    6. All equipment other than bats, balls, throw bases, gloves, helmets & provided nets must be approved by committee before use on turf.
    7. All equipment must be taken at the conclusion of the rental.  No equipment will remain at the complex without prior approval.
    8. Turf must be left prepared for the next user.
  4. NETTING SYSTEM:
    1. Do not hit balls (soft toss or tee) directly into the side nets.  These nets are stretched and don’t have the give of loose hung nets.  Balls can be hit into the loose hung batting cage divider nets.
    2. Do not hang, climb, tie off curtains or otherwise pull down on nets.
    3. The center divider retracts like a curtain from the middle. There is a hand crank on the opposite wall that will draw the net from the side out to the middle – stop when you get to the orange paint on the rope and insert locking pin. The net can be retracted to the side by removing the locking pin on the pulley and then, starting from the outside, manually pulling the net towards yourself.  Extension and retraction of net partitions must be done by a coach/adult.
    4. The batting cage dividers also retract like curtains from the center divider to each end.  Extend net divider by manually pulling net down cable.  The retraction must be done by starting on the outside and manually pulling the divider towards yourself.  Extension and retraction of must be done by a coach/adult.
    5. Each side will have access to both a rectangle and L-screens.  The screens are not to be removed from the turf area. Place them along the outside edge when not in use.  Keeping the legs in the turf area and not through the netting.  Please do not stack screens on top of each other.  
    6. If using either side’s batting cage for more than one batter, put rectangle 10’ x 10’ screen in middle as the backstop and have batters hit to opposite ends.
  5. TRACK
    1. The track is designed for walking only.  Please do not run on track, play catch, throw balls, kick balls, or play games.
    2. When using track please ensure that you are following the same direction of other walkers.
  6. RENTAL TIME & RESPONSIBILITY:
    1. The renter should note that time blocks are back to back.  All equipment and participants should be off turf surface at conclusion of their paid time block.
    2. The renter is responsible for the supervision of all participants of group. 
    3. The renter will be responsible for any damage to the facility.
    4. The renter will be responsible to return “Key” to the YMCA no more than 30 minutes after their rental ending time.
